Immigration Advocacy

This fall, our church invites you to join us in study and advocacy against third-country deportations.

Earlier this year, the Outreach Committee of Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church began studying immigration to the United States and reviewing the case of Roberto Mosquera. Last year, Mosquera was arrested by ICE and secretly deported to Eswatini, where he remains imprisoned.

This past month, a three-judge panel on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit unanimously ruled that the policy of deporting people to third countries is unlawful.

Mosquera’s case is terrible. It is also not unique. As of August 31, 2026, some 25,000-plus individuals have experienced the same fate. CBS News, The New York Times, and Amnesty International have all run pieces on Mosquera, highlighting the enormity of third-country deportations.

Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church has begun a letter-writing campaign to all members of the U.S. Senate’s Foreign Relations Committee on behalf of Mosquera and against the practice of third-country deportations. Will you join us in taking action against this despicable practice?

If you decide to lend your voice to this important cause, you can find a sample letter and the mailing addresses of every Senate Foreign Relations Committee member here.

To contact any of senators on the Foreign Relations Committee, please:
1. Download this Word document.
2. Copy and paste the senator whom you wish to address into the address block. Senators and their addresses are in the Word document.
3. Type any personal message you would like to in the personal message block.
4. Print the letter, sign it, stuff it into an envelope, add the address, affix a stamp, and mail!

Mosquera and third-country deportations were the subject of our Senior Pastor’s recent sermon, “Wayward,” on Sunday, September 20, 2026, which you can view and read here.

Do you have questions? Have you sent your letter(s)? Please let us know at advocate@fapc.org.
